With Viavi’s 4100 series DWDM OTDRs, the error detection and maintenance of DWDM networks can now be performed during operation. For measurements with an integrated tunable laser, all channels between C62 (1527.99 nm) and C12 (1567.95 nm) can be used in the C-band. Channel spacings of 50, 100, and 200 GHz can be achieved. The integrated continuous wave light source ensures end-to-end continuity through all multiplexers. The operation of all other channels is not disturbed.
With a single measurement, the OTDR provides all the values needed to quickly troubleshoot an error. The results are also compared to all international standards; thus, the operator can quickly see if all specifications are met using a pass/fail table. The testing equipment is available from LASER COMPONENTS.
With optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), 18 (CWDM) to 96 (DWDM) channels can be transmitted via a single optical fiber. This allows transmission rates in the network to be increased considerably. For this reason, xWDM technologies are becoming increasingly popular in broadband service access networks.
