New EESeal+ EMC filter technology from Quell offers improved attenuation and simple grounding

Quell-6-7x5Quell-1-7x5Quell Corporation, designers and manufacturers of EESeal EMI/RFI and transient protection solutions has introduced new EESeal+ EMI filter inserts with improved attenuation and frequency mitigation.

Quell’s patented EESeal+® technology uses EMC filter components embedded into a silicone rubber insert that matches the size, shape and pin configuration of the connector to be filtered. Transient suppressors can also be included. Users specify which filter elements  are required for each pin, allowing for the creation of a completely custom filter insert with widely varying capacitor values, shorts and opens as desired.  The inserts are easily and quickly inserted into standard connectors in seconds without the need for any special tooling or soldering, forming an effective EMI filter and an environmental seal.

Since EESeals do not use a PCB or brittle planar ceramic array construction, they offer major advantages when compared with traditional EMI filters. They do not need any modification of the body shell and do not create air pockets or defeat existing environmental seals. 3D construction, unlike 2D PCB solutions, does not risk violating applicable MIL standards for spacing, conformal coating, pad-size, etc. Components and wiring are fully embedded in protective silicone, so capacitors can’t ‘pop off’, and won’t be damaged during installation or use. The silicone construction also withstands severe temperature ranges and exposure to many deteriorating influences such as ozone, chemicals, aging and UV; further there are no spring metal contacts (BeCu) to degrade or become brittle due to overstress during installation. EESeal contacts accommodate severe misalignment and mismatch without loss or performance. EESeals are usually lighter than PCBs or arrays and are often 20-40% less expensive.

New EESeal+ technology has lower contact resistance and lower inductance than standard EESeals due to an improved ground plane.  Peak attenuation is around 50dB and customers have seen frequency mitigation as high as 40GHz.  In addition to EMI filters the EESeal+ makes it easy to ground pins to the shell such as the coaxial shields in Combo D-Sub connectors as well as coaxial circular connections.

Custom samples can be shipped in as little as 24 hours.  Devices are approved for flight use; Quell has received Boeing’s Gold Composite Performance Excellence Award. The company has a worldwide rep network, see http://eeseal.com/manufacturers-representatives-agents/
