Kontron KWS 3000-ADL: High-performance workstation in rugged midi-tower format with even more computing power

by donpedro

Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), will present the KWS 3000-ADL workstation now with powerful 12th Gen Intel® Core™ processors at the SPS show in Nuremberg. The extremely compact workstation, which was especially designed for use in industry and medical technology, combines the advantages of an industrial PC in terms of robustness and long-term availability with those of an office PC in terms of design and user-friendliness. Applications such as machine learning or AI workflows with power-hungry processes and large amounts of data can be handled effortlessly thanks to high-performance Intel® Core™ i processors with up to 16 cores as well as powerful GPUs and graphics cards that can be freely selected as add-on cards. The flexible, modular design allows easy adaptation to customer-specific requirements.

The heart of the new KWS 3000-ADL workstation, a powerful Micro-ATX motherboard, relies on 12th Gen Intel® processors and four DIMM DDR5-4800 modules with up to 128 GB RAM. The efficient thermal concept with two low-noise fans ensures smooth operation at temperatures up to 45 °C and therefore permanent, high-availability use around the clock. The workstation in compact midi-tower format (H x W x D: 380 x 190 x 380 mm) is shock and vibration resistant in accordance with EN 60068-2-27 and EN 60068-2-6 respectively, making it ideal for use in harsh environments.

The KWS 3000-ADL workstation can be individually configured; several front versions are available, up to four 3.5-inch drive bays can be equipped with either removable drives (hot swappable) or internal drives, and a Slim DVD can also be operated. In addition to the two USB 3.0 ports on the front, there are six more USB 3.2 ports as well as a USB C port on the rear side. Three GbE ports are available for connectivity, two of which can operate at up to 2.5 Gb/sec. The workstation also has four DisplayPorts DPP1.4 and a COM RS232 interface; three additional internal COM interfaces can be installed at the rear.

In addition, the KWS 3000-ADL provides three M.2 PCIe drives for e.g. SSD, wireless or 4G/5G functionalities. PCIe expansion slots provide space for powerful graphics cards, additional LAN cards or RAID controllers. All drives and add-on cards are screwed into the robust housing and optionally secured with card hold-downs.
