Industry Trends Globalization and digitalization: Schreiner ProTech to Showcase New RFID Label for All Common Frequency Bands

by donpedro

Globalization and digitalization confront the logistics sector with ever new challenges: Smart, RFID-based container management for all types of containers along the entire supply chain – worldwide – is a key success factor. At LogiMAT 2019 from February 19 to 21 in Stuttgart, Schreiner ProTech will present its new ((rfid))-DistaFerr Global label for container marking that has been optimized for worldwide use and specifically for metal containers. The ((rfid)) marking products for use on ESD materials will be further highlights.

Logistics operations involve shipping, processing and data acquisition of a large number of metal containers traveling across continents. Conventional UHF RFID labels, however, cannot be read on metal whereas specialty labels optimized for use on metal   are designed for readability on one of the two commonly used frequencies in the world: ETSI in Europe or FCC in the NAFTA region and Asia. This means that the label can only be read in either of these two ranges. Objects that switch between continents cannot be read in the respective other frequency range.

That is why Schreiner ProTech developed two new products for optimum data acquisition on metal across all international borders: the ((rfid))-DistaFerr Global and the ((rfid))-DistaFerr Global LongRange. Both labels take the physical properties of metal into account. The integrated dual-band antenna enables readability in both frequency bands. As a result, the labels are suitable for application in the two globally used frequencies and deliver reliable performance on metallic substrates.

The two products are identical in terms of size and design. The only difference between them is the chip used and the resulting read range that varies between three and up to six meters, depending on the version and frequency band in which the label is read. In addition, the labels are extremely durable and, due to their small size and minimal thickness, flexibly usable.

For container marking on ESD materials, Schreiner ProTech will showcase its ESD RFID label family with the ((rfid))-DistaFerr ESD that is available as a LongRange version as well. This label is specifically designed for all commonly used ESD container versions and anti-static levels and delivers read range of about seven meters.

How combined RFID sensor solutions are going to change logistics and manufacturing operations in the context of Industry 4.0 will be the subject of a technical presentation to be delivered by RFID expert Frank Linti at the LogiMat Forum. He will show applications in logistics and manufacturing in which RFID and sensors can be used and explain the benefits their deployment can offer.
