Highly integrated power management IC for small battery products: Rutronik adds Nordic Semiconductor’s nPM1304 to its portfolio
Nordic Semiconductor’s nPM1304 expands Rutronik’s power management IC portfolio. By integrating essential functions required for embedded designs in a small package, enabling longer runtimes and efficient battery charging with fewer components, this PMIC simplifies system design. The nPM1304 PMIC builds on Nordic’s award-winning PMIC nPM1300 and is a highly integrated solution that offers extremely low power consumption and accurate fuel level measurement. Applications include smart rings or glasses, as well as body sensors, and other small battery applications that support charging currents up to 4 mA. The nPM1304 is available at www.rutronik24.com.
Optimized for maximum efficiency and compact size, the nPM1304 is configurable via an I2C-compatible two-wire interface (TWI). This interface provides easy access and configuration of a range of advanced system management features, including integrated hard reset functionality for one or two buttons, accurate battery fuel gauge, system-level watchdog, power failure warning, and recovery after a failed boot.
These features are typically implemented as discrete components in embedded designs, but the nPM1304 integrates them into a single, compact package, simplifying system design – reducing the number of components required. The accompanying nPM1304-EK evaluation kit further supports developers in implementing their designs. The nPM1304 manages power for Nordic’s nRF52, nRF53 and nRF54 series of wireless systems-on-chip (SoCs) and other microcontrollers (MCUs) with extremely low power consumption.
