Most compact 75 A current sensor for photovoltaic inverters

The worldwide acceptance of photovoltaics is growing, the systems are easy to install, the costs for solar power are falling and the number of new installations is rising again. In the development of the necessary inverters, the trend is towards higher switching frequencies and, as a result, towards smaller and more cost-effective components. The new 75 A current sensor from VACUUMSCHMELZE (VAC) fits exactly into this picture, as it is the most compact current sensor in its class.

The EMC-optimized sensor is designed for a nominal current of 75 Arms, the size is only 13.7 x 22.2 mm. The large measuring range extends to 240 Arms and achieves an accuracy of 0.8 %. Minimum DC offset with very low hysteresis, low rise time, high clearance and creepage distances as well as a wide frequency range also characterize this sensor. The sensor has five primary connections and, like the entire series, is red-phosphorus-free. Besides solar inverters, the current sensors are used in frequency converters, uninterruptible power supplies and wind turbines.

“We are pleased to have added another sensor to our series of compact closed-loop sensors,” says Nico Schöniger, Product Manager ECA at VAC. “This will enable us to meet the demand for sensors for higher nominal currents.”
