The distributor Rutronik Elektronische Bauelemente GmbH now has digital switches in its portfolio in the form of the Red Rock RR110/120/130 series from Coto. Thanks to their very low energy consumption and small size, they are suitable for use in numerous fields, ranging from medical engineering to wildlife tracking to automotive.
The RR120 switch is a TMR-based solution that contains a small SOT-23 package with high magnetic sensitivity and low energy consumption. The RR120 is only 1.12 millimeters tall and has a total surface area of 4.26 square millimeters. Thanks to its diminutive size, the switch is suitable for medical use, specifically for endoscopic examinations of the gastrointestinal tract. A capsule endoscope is used, taking the form of a tablet that the patient swallows. As it passes through the gastrointestinal tract, it continuously records images which are transmitted to a recording device on the patient’s belt. Hearing devices are another example of a medical application. Here, the TMR prevents acoustic feedback.
The RR130 switch on the other hand is used in tracking wildlife. With a volume of 4.76 mm³, a mass of 8 milligrams and low energy consumption, this switch is suitable for tracking both birds and fish. Here, the TMR-based magnetic digital switch of the RR130 is used to start the recording system. The watertight, sealed tracking device stores and then transmits data to the end user using an ultra-low power microprocessor.
This series can also be used for a wide range of other applications. In battery management systems, Red Rock prevents power consumption before actual usage, for instance for GPS tracking in container monitoring. As a substitute for ReedContact technology, Red Rock can be deployed in all fields for metering, level sensoring and counting.
The TMR can also be used in white goods for motor synchronization and to shut off water.
