Crowd Supply, the leading product development platform connecting hardware creators with early adopters and enthusiastic backers, announces the launch of Watchy, a minimalistic E-Ink watch with a variety of cases to choose from, including bare-bones PCB, injection-molded plastic case, and anodized aluminum. Watchy, which uses both open source hardware and software, can be customized with 3D-printed cases and watch straps, enabling users to create unique timepieces. The minimalist device offers both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® Low Energy connectivity, allowing it to connect to BLE-enabled devices and internet APIs.
Watchy, launched by SQFMI with support from Crowd Supply, is built using an Espressif ESP32-PICO-D4 system-in-package, providing support for a range of development environment options including Arduino, MicroPython, Espressif’s ESP-IDF, and Zephyr-RTOS. Watchy is a wearable development platform, allowing users to create their own watch faces or choose from community-created designs. The device features an ultra-low-power e-paper display with 200 × 200 pixel resolution.
Watchy, one of the latest hardware projects launched through Crowd Supply, has been featured in popular media outlets, including Gizmodo and The Verge, which suggested that Watchy could allow owners to “…be like Steve Wozniak and have your own custom-made, geeky watch.”
