Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), announces the KBox A-250 at embedded world 2018. The newest addition to Kontron’s compact industrial computer platforms is tailored for gateway applications. Based on a pITX-2.5“ SBC with Intel Atom® processors of the E3900 family, the fanless KBox A-250 has been designed as a cost-optimized gateway for IoT Edge applications. Its fields of application are primarily found in industrial automation.
The compact KBox A-250 offers numerous interfaces to connect various layers of communication: A serial interface (RS232/RS485) for local data collection and connection to the sensor- or machine environment is provided. Connection to the IT environment can be realized through the integrated Gigabit Ethernet interfaces as well optional WiFi support. Additionally, a GPIO-interface is included. Wireless technologies such as LTE (4G) and GSM (2G/3G) are supported, an integrated LTE module can be added on demand.
The KBox A-250 can be set up and run quickly and easily, making it suitable for OEM manufacturers and systems integrators aiming to leverage the full potential of next generation intelligent infrastructure in IoT environments. The KBox A-250 is Microsoft Azure Certified and can be easily used with Microsft Azure IoT Services.
The Kontron KBox A-250 is based on pITX-APL with Intel Atom® E3930/E3940/E3950 processors and up to 8 GB ECC storage. The system offers one DisplayPort interface, two Gigabit Ethernet- and two USB 3.0 interfaces. System upgrades can be implemented through a MiniPCIe interface. Operating system and data can be stored either on one M.2 SSD, one mSATA SSD or one microSD.
The KBox A-250 supports Kontron’s Security Solution APPROTECT. In tandem with a specifically developed software framework, it provides full IP and copy/reverse engineering protection through a Wibu-Systems security chip. Kontron APPROTECT Licensing also provides license management to enable demo versions for limited time periods, or activation/deactivation of functions for a limited number of executions for new business models like pay-per-use. For secure cloud connectivity, a TPM 2.0 Security Chip is integrated.
