Omron Electronic Components Europe has significantly widened its D2EW range of sealed ultra subminiature basic switches with the introduction of 14 new UL models. The UL certification confirms that the new variants have been thoroughly tested by an independent third party, and meet or exceed all applicable safety requirements.

The D2EW switch range has been engineered to increase flexibility in design for equipment designers and builders. Its compact dimensions (8.3 x 7.0 x 5.3 mm) make it one of the smallest switch families available on the market, while offering high performance and reliability. A minimum applicable load of 50 μA contributes to energy saving. The switches’ IP67 protection (excluding terminals on terminal models) and high temperature durability up to +85˚C render it suitable for environments that require waterproof or dustproof components such as outdoor applications. Its small size makes it ideal for electronic devices where maximising space without compromising performance and reliability are a high priority for designers.

The switches’ unique pin plunger shape facilitates multi-angle 90 degree operation from vertically or horizontally without the need for a lever, thus reducing space requirements. The switch has a sliding contact structure, which provides a reliable contact with quiet operation. Variants are available with short or long press-fit terminals, straight PCB terminals, solder terminals, and moulded lead wires in a range of configurations. A wide range of variants are also available with colour-coded caps, along with left-right asymmetrical post and slot designs to prevent incorrect assembly.
