Melexis unveils a variant of the MLX92211, a 3-wire Hall-effect latch. This new device is designed for lateral magnetic position sensing, with high ESD protection and a high output current limit. This latest addition enables motor miniaturization by providing enhanced integration and cost-effective performance, ideal for automotive compact motors used in applications such as seat motors, sunroofs and thermal expansion valves.
Across the automotive sector, there is a rising demand for smaller, slimmer motor modules that do not compromise on robustness or diagnostics. This is especially critical in seat actuators, where multiple motors must be integrated into compact assemblies without sacrificing adjustability, comfort, or compliance with safety requirements. OEMs are under constant pressure to maximize cabin space and reduce vehicle weight, all while enhancing in-cabin functionality and supporting automated production. The same constraints apply to other areas of the vehicle like sunroofs and thermal valves, where reduced module height and surface-mount compatibility enable slimmer mechanical designs and more flexible integration.
MLX92211 IMC
The MLX92211 IMC addresses these demands head-on with an integrated magnetic concentrator (IMC) that enables lateral sensing in a surface-mount device (SMD) TSOT-3L package – eliminating the need for through-hole components and aligning with modern automated assembly processes. The result is a reduced motor height, improved packaging flexibility, and optimized manufacturing workflows.
Melexis’ newest MLX92211 IMC variant is built on the proven MLX92211 platform, delivering an optimized lateral-sensing option. The single-package device integrates a voltage regulator (2.7 to 24V operating range), a Hall effect sensor with advanced offset cancellation, and an open-drain output driver. The magnetic core’s enhanced offset cancellation system facilitates faster, more accurate, and robust processing, irrespective of temperature and stress, and includes a negative temperature coefficient to counteract the natural weakening of magnets at high temperatures.
3-wire and 2-wire (with external resistor) configurations
The robust latch sensor can be used in both 3-wire and 2-wire (with external resistor) configurations, with the 30mA current limit easily sufficient for maintaining safe and consistent operation in environments such as seat motors – where continuous current up to 25mA is often required. Combined with strong electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection (8kV), automatic output shut-off with self-recovery, and ASIL A functional safety readiness, the MLX92211 IMC meets the reliability requirements of modern automotive deployments.
Comments
“With the MLX92211 IMC, we’ve responded directly to the automotive industry’s demand for more compact, application-optimized motor latch sensors,” said Minko Daskalov, Product Line Manager at Melexis. “By enabling lateral magnetic sensing in a robust and cost-effective format, it allows engineers to reduce actuator height, increase motor integration within tight spaces – all while maintaining the performance and protection levels expected in modern automotive environments.”
Designed for automotive applications such as seat adjustment, window and sunroof controls, power doors, and expansion valves, the MLX92211 IMC supports the development of smaller motor and actuator assemblies that meet demanding size, performance, and safety constraints – while enabling seamless integration into automated production lines.
