Siemens eMobility and OMV took another important step in Kufstein, Austria, toward expanding the charging infrastructure for electric trucks and cars. In the presence of Provincial Councilor René Zumtobel, representatives from both companies, and key customers, the world’s first SICHARGE FLEX charging system was officially put into operation at the OMV station in Kufstein on September 29, 2026. OMV is a pilot customer and the first user of the new system unveiled by Siemens in October 2025.
With this new high-power charging system, OMV is expanding its electric mobility offerings and creating additional charging options along a major European transportation corridor, particularly for heavy-duty electric vehicles. SICHARGE FLEX is a decentralized system that combines modularity, scalability, and flexibility for depots and public charging. With a power output ranging from 480 kW to 1.68 MW, the system can be adapted to different scenarios and the growing demands of a location. OMV is a Charge Point Operator (CPO) and Mobility Service Provider (MSP) in several European markets and operates a comprehensive charging network in Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania.
High-power charging station along a strategic transportation corridor
The Kufstein location was chosen due to its strategic importance on the busy Brenner Route, a major transportation corridor between Germany and Italy. The Kufstein station is specifically tailored to the needs of truck drivers and, in addition to the new OMV eMotion charging infrastructure, offers amenities such as showers, restaurants, and washing machines. This allows OMV to combine high-power charging infrastructure with location-specific services geared to the needs of freight transport.
The new SICHARGE FLEX system in Kufstein initially offers four charge points for passenger cars and two charge points for trucks, each with a capacity of up to 400 kW. In the next phase, four additional charge points for trucks will be added, with power outputs ranging from 600 kW to 1,200 kW delivered via the Megawatt Charging System (MCS). This will significantly reduce the charging time. For example, a modern electric truck with a 620-kWh battery can be charged from 20 percent to 80 percent in about 45 minutes, allowing drivers to make the most of their legally mandated rest breaks. Thanks to fully dynamic power distribution, the available charging power can be allocated among the connected vehicles as needed.
Comments
“The electrification of freight transport is a key pillar of a sustainable transportation system,” said Markus Mildner, CEO of Siemens eMobility. “SICHARGE FLEX is a scalable solution that can be precisely configured for a variety of use cases – from logistics depots to public charging facilities for cars and trucks. In cooperation with OMV, we are demonstrating how this new generation of charging infrastructure works in practice.”

“The new high-power charging facility in Kufstein marks another important step in the expansion of our charging infrastructure. Heavy-duty electric vehicles, in particular, require powerful and reliably available charging options along major transportation routes. Kufstein’s location on the Brenner corridor makes it an ideal site. Together with Siemens, we are creating a solution that meets our customers’ needs while also demonstrating what the future of mobility could look like at our locations,” said Peter Vysny, VP of International Operations & eMobility at OMV.
Expanding the charging network
OMV is committed to expanding its high-power charging infrastructure and has already ordered SICHARGE FLEX charging systems for additional locations in Austria. Delivery and commissioning are scheduled for the coming months. The charging hardware is complemented by SIFINITY Control, a cloud-based monitoring and management solution from Siemens. It offers transparency and supports reliable and efficient operations. Together with the range of services offered by Siemens eMobility, this ensures a high level of availability.
