Mouser Electronics, Inc., the New Product Introduction (NPI) leader™ empowering innovation, is now stocking the SiWx917 Wi-Fi® 6 Plus BLE 5.4 wireless system-on-chip (SoC) from Silicon Labs. Designed explicitly for battery-operated, low-power wireless Internet of Things (IoT) devices incorporating Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Matter and IP networking for secure cloud connectivity, the SiWx917 is Silicon Lab’s lowest-power Wi-Fi 6 SoC.

The Silicon Labs SiWx917 SoC, available from Mouser Electronics, is comprised of an integrated microcontroller (MCU) application subsystem, enhanced security engine, peripherals, power management subsystem and an ultra-low power Wi-Fi 6 plus Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) 5.4 wireless CPU subsystem that supports Matter over Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi 6 Target Wake Time (for extended battery life in multi-year operational devices like smart sensors and locks).

Matter is a universal software layer and a new connectivity standard for IoT devices. Built using standard communication IP, Matter enables broader compatibility and connectivity with a multitude of IoT devices and protocols using a single access point. The single, fully integrated, Matter-ready SiWx917 was developed to help radically increase battery life and reduce energy consumption in Wi-Fi IoT networking (up to 50% lower consumption than other competing Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth LE combination SoCs) while delivering more computing, faster AI/ML acceleration and robust security to run all wireless stacks and multiple customer applications, all on one chip.

At the heart of the SiWx917’s application subsystem is a 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M4F running up to 180 MHz, embedded SRAM, FLASH, AI/ML accelerator and Sensor Hub dedicated for peripheral and application-related processing. The Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) 5.4 wireless CPU subsystem consists of baseband digital signal processing, an analog front end, a 2.4 GHz RF transceiver, an integrated power amplifier, and a multi-threaded processor (ThreadArch®) specified up to 160 MHz to run the wireless and networking stacks on independent threads. The SiWx917 also supports OFDMA, MU-MIMO, BSS coloring and other features that enable higher bandwidth and improved network efficiency in congested environments, allowing faster, more stable network coverage. For security, the SiWx917 offers Secure Boot, Secure Trust Zone, and Secure XIP and is PSA Level 2 (PSA-L2) certifiable.

The SiWx917 wireless SoC is offered in a single 7 mm × 7 mm × 0.85 mm 84-pin QFN package. It can be controlled via USART, UART, SPI, SIO, I2C, and I2S interfaces and is well suited for battery-powered devices in smart homes, consumer health and wearables, medical, industrial, retail, Smart buildings and cities and asset tracking. The SiWx917 ultra-low-power SoC is supported by the Si917-PK6031A Pro Kit, which is also available from Mouser.
