Kontron presents first embedded computer platforms with Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 support

19 NOVEMBER 2009

On the Intel Atom Day, staged on September 23 in Munich’s Allianz Arena, Kontron demonstrated the latest features of Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3, officially published one day earlier, as well as previewing an advance version of Windows Embedded Standard 2011 (the successor to Windows XP Embedded/Windows Embedded Standard 2009), underscoring the extremely fast response in implementing new operating system functions. Fast-reacting and comprehensive software support is an extremely important competitive factor for developers, especially when adding features that enable new applications to be created. The interesting features of Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 include: low-resource Internet Explorer Embedded, Silverlight for Embedded implementation, Adobe FlashLite 3.1.0 support, plus innovative touch and gesture support, which show the way to entirely new interactive and networked x86 applications.
Developers were already able to test the new releases on two alternative embedded computer platforms based on the Intel Atom processor: Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 on the Kontron nanoETXexpress-SP computer-on-module, and Windows Embedded Standard 2011 on the 2.5-inch pico-ITX single-board computer Kontron pITX-SP.
