Molex Incorporated announces another industry first with the introduction of the HyperJack 1000 PoE+ Integrated Connector Module, or ICM. This multi-port module also integrates magnetics to support Ethernet 10/100/1000, embeds the PoE+ power management functions in an RJ45 connector. The new product is available at distributor Rutronik now.
Molex’s integrated HyperJack 1000 PoE+ ICM’s reduce customer engineering effort allowing for plug-and-play PoE+ without investing in development of PoE+ capability. The design combines PoE+ controller silicon to manage and deliver 30 Watt Power over Ethernet, coupled with Gigabit PoE+ magnetics, thermal management and a high level of protection against ESD, EFT and EMI. In addition, the HyperJack 1000 PoE+ ICM design meets the pending PoETec V2.0 standard that sets out industry standard footprint and communication protocols, allowing for easier industry wide adoption.
Power over Ethernet technology allows end users to power and communicate with network devices over an Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for separate power supplies. The existing 15 Watt IEEE 802.3af standard is used to power connected Ethernet devices such as VOIP phones, wireless access points and security cameras. Due to be ratified in 2009, the 30 Watt IEEE 802.3at standard, also known as PoE+, will make self-powered equipment with higher power requirements possible.
